Blog Tour: Here Burns My Candle by Liz Curtis Higgs

Here Burns My Candle by Liz Curtis Higgs, just didn’t do it for me…. in fact, since confession is good for the soul, I didn’t finish it.

Maybe my tastes in books have changed.  I thought I liked historical fiction and use to devour books by John Jakes and the likes.  But lately, the last 5 years or so, I’ve been on a non-fiction diet, biographies tend to be my favorite, but I try to read some fiction to expand my reading library.  I was excited when this book came in the mail – then not so excited as I read the first 50 pages, then the next 25 pages and finally around page 100, I threw in threw in the towel and just decided this book wasn’t for me.

The characters were predictable the story line was predictable and honestly after the first 50 pages, I felt like I could have written the rest of the book.  The book was hard to read and I like fiction that is easy, has a beginning a middle and an end.  Written in the old English left me reading at half the speed I normally do.

I wish the author the best and respect that she’s published 27 books, but maybe this just wasn’t my kind of book.
